I am investigating the performance of knowledge bases designed for the Semantic Web with a particular focus on the use of such knowledge bases for provenance applications. This includes simple RDF storage systems as well as well as more sophisticated solutions that provide support for RDFS and OWL inferencing.

My current focus has been inspired by my previous work on ways of querying and searching provenance in support of answering scientists's questions. As part of that work, I investigated the aggregation of provenance data into repositories to enable querying, the performance of repositories for the purposes of answering queries, the formulation of the queries themselves and improvements to the schema used for provenance data to facilitate querying against the data. In particular, I investigated these concerns in the specific context of provenance encoded using Semantic Web technologies.

In collaboration with Dr. Paulo Pinheiro da Silva, I developed the PML-SPARQL Project. This project aggregated provenance data generated from the annotation of scientific processes and workflows executed by members of CyberShare and made it available for searching and querying through a web interface and through a set of services. Some of this work is summarized in a poster.

I am a member of the Trust Group at UTEP where I am working under the guidance of Dr. Paulo Pinheiro da Silva.
