Earth Sciences - Gravity Ontology

Brief Description

As an initial attempt to create an ontology about the application of gravity to the field of geophysics, the gravity ontology prototype was created with the guidance of Dr. Keller, a recognized expert in the domain. The findings of this initial interaction led us to recognize some of the patterns used by scientists to categorize concepts and relationships. The initial interaction with Dr. Keller has formed the basis for the development of the WDO approach.

Earth Sciences - Seismology Ontology

Brief Description

This collaboration aims to create a workflow-driven ontology prototype for the seismology domain, as viewed by Dr. Velasco. The value of this work is two-fold: from the seismology side, the Seismology-WDO prototype will capture knowledge that can be used to identify "workflows" to accomplish useful scientific tasks, along with the identification of functionality that either exists or needs to be developed in order to create an implementation of such workflows. From the computer science side, the experience of creating a Seismology-WDO will serve as a case study that will allow the computer-scientist to better understand and refine the WDO approach.
